Paul Calver

Profile

Paul Calver is a freelance commercial photographer. The reason I decided to analyse some of his work is because I want to contrast his commercial photography for Greenwich Peninsula to my street photography.

Work Analysis

Calver's commercial photography attempts to make the Greenwich Peninsula seem modern, sleek and avant-garde. In this image (right), Calver uses the rule of thirds to distribute the massive size of The O2 and make it feel right in place. There is also multiple leading lines with the cables. The only problem with the image is that there are two objects on the right of the frame as they look out of place.

The most interesting part about this photo are it's leading lines and colour palette. The leading lines create an interesting back and forth for the viewer so it examines the image in a much deeper way. The colour palette is rather dull, but it is what makes the picture have a pleasing aesthetic.

Here, North Greenwich is portrayed as full of people which it is not. Another marketing ploy that I contrasted with my photography.
